EVERYTHING ALREADY PRESENT
Artist collective group show

Presented at Art Mûr (Montréal, Qc) in March 2023

The collective

Everything Already Present is a collective comprising six ceramic artists (Sam Duquette, Kimberly Orjuela, Cassi Camille, Sara Mericle, Owen Herlin and Élodie Dubuc-Bernard) that draw from diverse perspectives and experiences to explore issues central to contemporary ceramics. Initially connecting at Concordia university, the collective converged around a common passion to contribute to the development and support of programs that enrich community, and to explore issues central to sustainability. Their efforts have manifested through community outreach, fundraising in support of ceramic education, peer sharing, and working to enhance sustainable material research and practices within institutions.

The collective has participated in international ceramic residencies, organized local clay digging excursions, and undergone research and testing toward the development of the functional use of local materials. In 2023 these research efforts manifested in the exhibition Everything Already Present, an inaugural group exhibition focused on the exposition of ceramic artworks that shed light on a variety of concerns related to sustainability. As part of this exhibition, local material tests, recipes, and practical methods for sustainable material usage were disseminated to the public via a ceramist recipe booklet designed to encourage these environmentally mindful practices.

Mandate

The collective is committed to exploring the impact of our artistic practices on the environment, engaging in dialogue with the urgent contemporary issues of our time. We aim to share sustainable material research and develop practical methods to help shift the trajectory of contemporary ceramics toward ecological responsibility. By fostering an inclusive community dialogue, we seek to amplify diverse voices and make our practices accessible to the public. We support one another as artists coming from different environments, building a network grounded in care, collaboration, and knowledge exchange. Through our artworks, we aspire to reflect and uphold shared values of sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience.
